With Christmas just around the corner and all logic in budgeting goes out of the window, it's about time you put a cap on your spending and not have the 'January Blues' next year. While we all like to see loved one's faces light up when they unwrap their presents, if you have to go hungry after all of the indulgence then is it worth putting your life and finances at risk. That's not to say be a 'Scrooge', but checking your finances, tracking your spending and cutting down on unnecessary costs can make your Christmas less stressy.
As you might be worrying slightly as Christmas is drawing closer, it's not all doom and gloom. There is the option of using
instant payday loans to bridge the gap between now and your December pay packet. This should be the last resort as you need to pay back interest on the loans, but when all your other options are exhausted and Christmas has crept up on you and you haven't had a chance to go shopping, then it's an option.
It's sad that one day out of 365 can lead people into misery for months afterwards and by the time they get back on their feet, it's time to start thinking about a summer holiday, or worse still, the next Christmas. As there is no time for this year, from January 1st, start saving just for a Christmas present fund. You'll be amazed how much this helps. As that's not available right now, there are a few things you can do.
1. Make a list and stick to it – don't go on an impulse-buying spree. Make a budget, spread it out between those you're buying presents for and stick to it. After all, that's what they are doing so why should you go overboard with your own spending?
2. Don't leave it until December – Last-minute shopping is not only stressful but it's usually when retailers' prices are at their highest, even if they do have 'discount' markdowns. Chances are they are higher than they were in the summer.
3. Don't forget to check online – Compare retailers against online shops. In most cases, brick 'n' mortar shops have huge costs and online shops don't, so they can charge less, even the same retailer usually sell their own products for less than they do in a physical shop.
Remember, your friends and family that you buy gifts for aren't oblivious to your financial situation. If you're strapped for cash, some low-cost gifts or hand-made gifts are just as important for them. It's the togetherness and thoughtfulness that counts for Christmas presents, not the cost. If you flash the cash and drive a Lamborghini then, admittedly, they might expect something very expensive, but for most of us, that's not the story.
To save your December wage from disappearing and making the first quarter of the new year a torrid time, plan your Christmas present purchases and make sure you can pay your bills and be financially sound into the new year.
